An In Depth Look at our Design Principles

Product design is not something we take lightly over here at CHIEF Provisions. It’s literally in our name.
Our products are designed to be true provisions (supplies of food, drink, or equipment, especially for a journey), not because it’s some cool marketing ploy, but because we believe adventure matters.
Adventure stirs our affection for all of creation. It’s what takes us to the depths of the ocean and the peaks of the mountains. It will tug on your heart strings and convince you to fly half way around the world to catch a fish no one has ever heard of. Or maybe it will encourage you to try every local burger joint in your town and crown the champion.
Regardless of what you deem to be an adventure, we want to be there every step of the way, keeping you cool & comfortable, ready to take on whatever the day brings. That’s why we design each provision for any & every adventure. Because while I love chasing anything that will take a fly, I’ve recently picked up golf and have been having a blast. Limiting my wardrobe to apparel I can only fish in either doubles the weight of my luggage should I choose to golf, or forces me to compromise on fishing gear which is not something I am willing to do.
So instead, I design my own apparel. Specifically, apparel that goes beyond limitations. Apparel that has the ability to adapt to the environment and take on any adventure. Apparel that says yes to a day of fishing and the golf course. Apparel that shows off the importance of product design in a category where it is so often neglected.
Let’s break down the principles behind our product design.
1.) Authenticity
“For every product we design, we focus on crafting a unique experience that sets us apart from our competition. We refuse to slap our brand on a product that we haven't honestly dedicated our time to crafting into the best provision possible.”
This is all about integrity. Knock offs are all too present these days, and the last thing we want to do is produce a lackluster product into the market. We want our products to be uniquely CHIEF. It’s why you won’t see a logo front and center on any of our provisions. The design should speak for itself.
2.) Usability
“User experience is the name of our game. Our provisions are all crafted to offer a top-of-the-line experience for a variety of use cases.”
Obviously, this is easier said than done, but it all begins with a use case that has gone unmet. The provision is then crafted around this use case and tested to ensure it applies to additional use cases. This involves extensive user testing in a variety of environments and scenarios.
3.) Functionality
“Usability without functionality is like fishing without a hook. For that reason, we incorporate thoughtful and useful features into every one of our provisions.”
While a comfortable shirt can offer perfect usability while sitting at home, when you step outside, the demands of the adventure require features that can diminish the user experience if not carefully implemented. Therefore, each feature is iterated upon until we verify the efficacy of the implemented solution, thereby ensuring an entirely beneficial user experience.
At the end of they day, we want to be proud of the products we put out in the world. We believe building things the right way is always worth it, and we promise to always deliver products that enhance your adventures. With so many cool provisions coming your way, make sure you stay in the loop, and never miss a launch.
