How to Tie a Davy Knot

Tips & Tricks: Knots

Let's tie a Davy Knot. Designed for competitive fishing, this knot comes together extremely quickly and requires minimal amounts of line. While being relatively simple, if tied incorrectly it has practically no holding power. It should also be noted that this knot fails to hold braid.

To get started, we'll thread the working end of our line though the eye of our hook.

From here, we take our working end and tie an overhand knot around the standing end, but before closing the loop, we will add one more wrap around the original working line. If wrapped around the standing line, the knot will slip almost immediately.

After successfully wrapping the working line back around itself, pull the entire knot down towards the eye of the hook, ensuring the tag end lies underneath the bulk of the knot and is thoroughly compressed. If your knot looks like this, you've tied a davy knot.
